I have recently heard the a metal stake and tie you tomato plant to it somehow grows biger heather plants, is there any truth to that? iv used wooden stakes all my live. GOD BLESS, Glen

Wood is an excellent insulator. The last thing I want is for the mid-day solar heat of July and August to be absorbed by a metal stake....and then that heat being transferred by contact to the delicate green "skin" of the main stem of the plant. That could create an element of stress that the plant need not experience.

Continue to use the wood ! So, how do you secure your growing stems and branches TO those wooden stakes ? I use short pieces of the cheapest nylon stockings I can get at WalMart. They are flexible and can stretch as the stem gets wider. Sunlight and air can still pass through that nylon mesh. I never use wire ties on an actively growing plant.

I raid the wifes nylons LOL. Thanks for the info i new it didnt sound right, but im prob.planting around 25 diff. tomato plants so i was going to try a couple but i wont now, Are you joing the giant tomato growers group on here? Hope you do. GOD BLESS, GLEN/treetop
