New Jersey: 6.16 pounds Minnie Zaccaria Variety: Big Zac
I've saved tomato seeds all different ways but my favorite is the OxyClean method. I like to soften the fruit up a bit with the palm of my hand, but without breaking the skin of the fruit. I then cut and x in the bottom of the fruit using a knife or razor blade. If the tomatoes are large I often make slits in the bottom of the seed cavities around the tomato. Gently squeezing the tomato will then cause the seeds to pour out into a container through the slits which were cut in the fruit. Usually this works very well and nearly all of the seeds come out. If your like me and go after every seed, the fruit can then be disected to search for any seeds which didn't come out during the intial extraction. Any large debris is then removed. I put in @ a half teaspoon of OxyClean and then followed by an amount of HOT water that is at least equal to that of the saved seeds and pulp. That mixture is stirred and then allowed to sit for at least 30 minutes. The OxyClean will disolve most if not all of the pulp leaving only the seeds. The seeds are then placed onto a screen and sprayed with water if necessary to remove any small debris from the seeds . Seeds are then placed on a plate to dry. They dry best spread out as well as possible. Once dry you can take small amounts of the ones that stick together and gently rub them between your fingers to get them apart.
