It is for a good cause. Every association member grower can submit an entry in the Luling contest. Each entry is auctioned regardless of size. The auction is one of the ways their local business community supports the local watermelon growers. The bids are generous for both large and smaller watermelons. A portion of the auction proceeds also go to scholarships.
