has anyone grown a melon on top of mill fabrick or is it too rough????

I tried that last year and loss 4 melons over 200 pounds I will not be doing that again you're better off growing on a plastic shelf you get at Lowe's or Home Depot

I use a metal shelf with mill fabric under it to control splashing, the melon isn't in direct contact with the fabric.

I used it for several years on top of the metal shelving with out problems, found it easier to position the melon when necessary. I put 2x2s under both sides of the shelving

i tried it last year but my melon only went 38lbs after i stepped on main vine picking maters lol was wondering how it was with heavier melons ,thanks pizza

Hi Gwarren Mill Fabric is really Mill Wire and it is a porous window screen like material used in the paper mill. These Mill Fabric mats are actually made from the conveyor belts found in paper mills. And yes, you could grow a pumpkin or watermelon on top of this, but it does help to provide sand between the fruit and Mill Fabric. This way the fruit can still slide as it grows and is easier to work with if you need to make adjustments. If you are interested, please contact "sludgepumpkin".
