How do you store seeds you save from previous melons? Do they need to be cold stratified?

Wash them off with a 10% clorine solution let them dry for a week and put them in the refrigerator in the crisper drawer. Never had any problem with germination. Some guys put them in the freezer.

No stratification is needed for seeds of any cucurbit. But freezing your melon seeds will help them remain viable much longer.

Someone also mentioned to me to try soaking them in a mix of oxy powder and water, rinse well and dry thoroughly. Any opinions on this method?

Freezing sounds good, always works for my beer yeast to keep it viable, at least the dry yeast.
