Plants started out nicely and melons came along fairly well, but I am loosing them to (?) black mold(?). Getting up to football size then you see they quit growing evenly. Treated heavily with Daconil(sp) yesterday, any other tips for dealing with this appreciated. This is a new patch and I am not a seasoned melon grower.

What do the vines look like? Leaves? You have a diary? Pictures would help. Stump oozing?

Thanks!! I have had a couple of SPMs! Yeap, blossom end rot. I haven't done a diary this year. I am in a new spot and haven't done any prep stuff, so I was really taking a shot in the dark this year!

I grew a 133 pound melon last year in a newly tilled area on a marsh, Plant was half eaten by voles, and did not receive the attention it would have gotten at home. You can still get something out of it !

LOL Spence! I'll take any solid melon regardless of the shape!!! This soil is going to need a lot of help it seem. I get a sample in this fall and see if I can do anything with it. Been working on the calcium, now if we can get the heat turned down a degree or two!
