What's the idea temperature that the ground should be at before putting my pants in the ground? We're having a pretty cold and wet spring so far up here in Indiana. My plants are only about 3 weeks old so I do have a little time.

I use soil heating cables to keep my soil at 72 degrees and they do very well. Last year one of my melon plants cables was unplugged and the soil was 60 degrees when I finally noticed and the plant was just sitting idle. I don't know the ideal temp but they grow well at 72.

There better off in the pot then stuck in cold ground.Mine are 3 weeks in the pot.might be 10 more days to get them in ground. If there in 1 gallon pots or bigger you will be fine.

I think soil temps should at least be above 50 degrees for plant health. If the temperature is too low plants will pretty much just sit there and wait.
