I have 10 tons of sand being delivered tomorrow to put on top of the landscape fabric, I sure do dread the work but I know it will pay off in the long run.
Frank Mudd uses landscape fabric and put 1/2 inch of sand on top of the fabric, Keeps weeds out and the watermelon roots right thru the sand and fabric.
Wish me luck.
I have been using the advanced nutrition fertilizers from Mark Clementz over at worldwidegiantgrowers.com and it makes my plant grow pretty good so far.

I don't blame you for dreading that. That's a lot of sand to spread!

GOOD LUCK Otis ! I'm on a steep slope, if i used sand, after the first thunderstorm, it would all be in my neibors field ! LOL

I just spread the 10 tons, was not enough I ordered 10 more tons.
I sure hope to grow a big melon . Won't be for lack of trying.

I found out 10 tons is about 8 yards of sand. They sell it by the yard around here.
