Thanks to everyone for all of the information that is freely give out on the site.
This year my daughter, age 15, wanted to grow a big garden to show the other students in her FFA club how it's done. We couldn't be more pleased with the results. We were growing more for production than competition but we still managed some large melons by our standards. Her largest was 83lbs and that won her first in the largest melon category at the Tennessee Valley Fair. We had around 70 melons total that averaged around 65lbs. All of the culls were sold to local markets and that netted her several hundred dollars to put toward college. We didn't do anything special this year, just some 6-12-12 at the beginning. Next year we are going to try all of the things that we have learned here and try to get a 200 pounder.

Congrats! It is good to see there are still some young people who enjoy farming, when so many of their peers are spending all their time on e-phones and spacebooks. Best of luck next year.
