Are those of you laying sheets on your melons pulling them off before or after rain, or just leaving them on? Thanks

Mine are on 24-7, rain or shine. I did get clorothalonil on one sheet at the blossom end, sun burned in 24 hrs. Should have changed sheet and washed melon. Noted for next year.

I leave them on rain or shine,I do take them off in the evening sometimes when the sun is down to let air out a little. If were going to have a warm night. If its cold the sheet stays on.

To me sheets are not the way to go because if you are any where near the south it gets to hot on the melon even with a sheet on top the melon will cook from the heat. 3/4 ply wood over the top will keep the melon cool and the sun off and the melon will grow longer. Just my thinking.

I felt the same way at first.I'm a nervous charley @ captain overkill. The sheets work great!Make sure you tuck them under some leafs so they dont blow off.I need a california queen for my kin using 2 sheets now.

I have been slitting a king size pillow case on one side and putting it over, so the closed end is over the blossom end and its stays on pretty good. I did build some shelter's like Todd's, but decided not to use them this year thinking they shaded to much of vines and killed off growth that was under them all the time. ???
