The GPC site lists Frank's 274.5 and his 256. as 1st and 2nd at Indianapolis. But in the General Discussion forum on this site, Tommy G lists those two melons as exhibition only. So what is the deal ?

I had no idea what Frank wanted to do. It was a question. I am perfectly happy with anything Frank decides to do. I have great respect for both men. My respect for you however has just gone down a bit.

I think it takes a special person to sacrifice their own gain and prestige on behalf of another. My hat is off to Frank Mudd if that is what happened.

At this time the GPC site actually lists Frank's melons as number 2 & 3 for the largest melons grown and weighed this year. I don't think it matters if they choose to put "Exh" by them or not. They were GREAT melons.

The Indiana fair "request" that you leave the entries for about a week. When I questioned Frank prior to the weigh-off as to why he had not entered one of the larger ones he said "it's not about winning or the money for me". He explained how he wanted to be able to take his melons to his Kentucky State Fair and put them in his county's dislpay next weekend. The fairs are where thousands of pictures and memories are made, sitting atop a giant melon or pumpkin.

That's where the real fun is in this madness, sharing with our friends and neighbors. Even though Frank did not take the trophy home he was the winner, and will always be a winner!!

Thank you for the explanation Dave. One of our GWG board members actually emailed me with his thoughts on the matter and was almost dead on accurate as to what happened. Frank is a great melon grower and breeder and also one of the nicest people around. Congratulations again to both of you guys.

I kind of thought the answer to my question would be something similar to the response you gave Dave. I saw no harm in posing the question and I hope no one was offended.

Frank surrendered his prize so he could take his watermelons home.

They are official.

This is a non story.

Thank you

I'm the director at the Indiana State Fair in charge of the weigh-off and Frank wanted to take his melons home with him so we decided put his smallest melon in the contest so he could leave with his other two and go to Kentucky State Fair. Frank is one of the greatest person I have ever met we need more like him!!! End of Subject Tom Gary Director of Indiana State Fair

I normaly dont speak on these things. but i felt i had to this time. WHY? i ask why do you feel you have to cause trouble at someones weigh off? Yes, you may have a beef with someone on BP. I have went to the Ky growers seminar the last 2 yrs. havent met a nicer kinder group of guys. They dont care if they get beat by a pound or hundred pounds. from what i have seen and heard from these guys, they just wanna grow em big. because they love to, not because they want the money. i have sat in the lobby just talking pumpkins or watermelons. heck one of them gave me a 239 seed. and yes that 239. askd him what he wanted, he said just grow it big he said. Guess what, thats what this hobby is missing. doing it for the love of the hobby. getting to meet wonderful people. which i have met in Ky. so please, DO NOT go to the weigh off just to cause trouble. if you do, take it back to the hotel. this will be my first time going to Bear Wallow. My family and i are going. i am going because of the awesome people that i have met there. i dont really have a chance to talk with them much. but i consider them my friends. so please dont cause trouble for this very friendly family event. sorry so long winded, but thats how much i like these guys. its also not directed at any one person. i think we have lost the point of growing these big things. For fun, family and friendship.

Thank you for reading

Paul
What's the problem? Dennis is just trying to find out what happened I see nothing wrong with the question! Just take a deep breathe! As far as someone making an ass of themselves it's apparent, this is a family friendly hobby and forum, if you don't like Dennis I'm sure he don't care! I've learned a few things from him, I look forward to meeting him in person at a weigh off this year, possibly Bear Wallow. So please don't come up here to start problems, but the former Marine inside me wishes you would!j/k! If you do come up maybe we should all just have a beer together. Have an extremely great day!

Paul I was just trying to lighten the mood, I don't like conflict, but as a former Marine I have extensive training that most don't have, and I can handle my own,j/k means just kidding! I too am a country boy speaking my mind ! I wasn't trying to scare you Paul I offered to have a beer with you if you come up! As far as homeless and and crazy I am not, actually self employed and doing pretty good! Some guys just can't handle the things they saw and took part of in the military, I sleep good at night! Again have an extremely wonderful day! I'm serious about that beer no need to fight

I wish I could figure out what I did to upset you Paul. I truly wish I could. This thread should be over and done with. I have nothing against anyone on here and have said nothing against anyone on here. I have had a few disagreements with other growers but have always kept my language respectful and have never made threats against anyone. I enjoy a heated debate once in a while if I am convinced I am right. But the use of foul language and the use of threats against other growers is just plain wrong and uncalled for. How am I making myself look like an a** and why should I shut up when you are still dishing out criticism, Paul F ?

well I think I'm a good guy! and in the Marines I didn't use a scope we were trained with open sites. If I had a dollar for every round I've squeezed off I'd be a wealthy man. But seriously if you got to know Dennis you'll find out he's not what you think he is

Paul, I would be happy to sit down and drink a beer with you sometime; just like some of the other good fellows on here. I mean, are you sure you want to prove what a big man you are by taking on a 60 year old man in remission from cancer ? I mean it is kind of like men who beat up on women. They just prove they are stronger and unreasonable.Let us talk about things and reason through our problems. :o)
