To be good and ripe (sweet) they generally need around 60 days to grow following pollination.

In yankee land it could take 70 to 80 depending on the weather

Normal signs of ripeness do not apply with Carolina Cross melons.

I received an email from a new grower that had associated size with ripeness. It's a classic beginner mistake. This years melons were larger than the biggest one you can buy in the store after about 24 days on the vine, so that's really a bad indicator.
