In an effort to promote our club and this hobby around the world, the GWG is awarding two new Regional Awards at the end of the season. We have decided to create 3 separate regions, USA, Canada, and International, which includes any other country in the world. The two new regional awards will be awarded to the top watermelon grower in the two regions that do not include the overall GWG winner. This will ensure that every year the top grower from each of the three regions will receive well deserved recognition. The winners will receive a plaque and a cash award of $250. The GWG is donating the plaques and the cash awards are being donated by my own company, Dynamic Vibration.

So.... if the largest watermelon grown in 2012 this year is from say....Canada...then the awards would go to the grower with the largest melon in the USA, and the grower with the largest melon in any other country, such as Spain. The grower from Canada would not be eligible for these awards. I know the more likely scenario would be a grower from the USA as the overall GWG winner, and the awards will go to someone in Canada and someone across the pond.. but one never knows!!

Rules for this award are the same as usual...

Members must be in good standing by June 1st 2012 to be eligible. Watermelons must be weighed at GPC sanctioned weigh-off. If it looks like a watermelon and it is undamaged.... it counts!!

Good Luck to all in 2012..... let's grow some BIG Melons!!

Great Idea!Maybe later as club grows there could be more regions like Northwest United States,They definitely have a disadvantage from the rest us Yanks & Rebels,as maybe the Northeasters do to.

Westham, you need to contact the GPC and find out from them what you need to do to initiate a GPC weigh-off in your area.

Westham - Have you tried an email to ciberpapaseit@msn.com? You both share a common interest in gardening. Maybe he is close to your area.
