Hi GWG Members:

We are very happy to announce that Lloyd Bright of Hope, Arkansas, is our 5th committee member. For those who may not know, LLoyd and his dad grew a 200# world record watermelon in 1979. Lloyd also grew a 268.8# world record melon in 2005 that held the record until 2010.

Thank you Lloyd for joining us on the committee and there is no doubt that you will be a great asset in helping this club grow

I got to meet Lloyd, and his dad Mr Ivan Bright in 2004, both are great men and they were very helpful. Lloyd is a great addition to the board. Jason Bright also grew a 260# world record melon in 1985 three time World record holders so far.

Yes speaking of Mr. Bright book, if you like to grow watermelons and want to know a lot of history about watermelons, buy this book, it makes for some great reading. You can get them from Mr. Bright and I think Tom sells them as well, check his web site.

That is not very nice Paul. Nor do I think it is true. I believe all or maybe all but one on the committee have grown lots of huge melons. Are you trying to make someone feel bad or what ? All I really care about is that these gentlemen do a good job running our club. But these guys are among the best in the world at growing Carolina Cross watermelons and I have profound respect for them in that regard. I think you should probably do a little homework before making untrue accusations.

Thank you for the introduction Todd. Growing giant watermelons is different from growing commercial watermelons. The growing expertise that applies to commercial watermelon production doesn't work well on giant watermelons. There are limited resources for learning to grow the large ones. The BP watermelon growing forum is a good resource. The GWG club that started last year is also becoming a good resource. The GWG expanded recently to a five member board. The board members are from Canada, Michigan, North Carolina, and Arkansas. I am the new member of the group. I am learning about the passion the GWG board has for growing giant watermelons and about the desire of all board members to do things right. Another thing they have in common is grower success. If you have a grower question for a GWG board member, you will get a straight forward answer. I am fortunate to be included in this group as a board member.
