imitichloprid (okay I messed that spelling up) or Merit (brand name same thing). We end up with grub to grub in spring about 2" underground so I have to treat for them right off. And add putting in 4" [poster, folder, cereal or cracker box] cardboard collars (4" of a manilla folder, staple into ring, and put 2" deep near plant base) around young plants to prevent cutworm attacks. Once you get into your grub control the collars are easy to remove or let rot in place.

I just use the pellets from Lowes for lawns. Think they have bifenthrin in them. Just sprinkle around before a rain or till in seems to work. I find lots of dead ones after use.

Deb is correct, Imidacloprid, you can find it real reasonably priced under several generic names.

I am looking for my 'recipe book' right now for sprays, fertilizers, etc... and I just mix up one batch of my SVB killer and spray patch a few days before final dressing and hoop put up. The store 'lawn grub killer' is a fraction of active ingredient mixed in rice hulls, thought it was just easier and cheaper to go out and do a batch of spray.

Maybe a dumb question, but merit is systemic. Does it have to be in contact with the plant or is it soil active without plants?

Merit is a systemic, but it is also one hell of a grub killer.
