You are correct that the 173 is a good size. It's just 50 pounds off my best. Last year there were 4 melons at Nekoosa over 200 pounds, and my best was 193. This is definitely a step down, since I didn't even have a secondary melon to take to Stillwater.
On the plus side, the genetics I have to work with next year are really good, and I am looking at changing some techniques.
