Good morning teacher. I mean MSJanet. It really is a beautiful day here in east Tennessee. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this fine weather would hold up until the Allardt festival.

Morning yall. We had beautiful weather last week but we are back into the triple digits again, and no rain in sight.. It was almost a relief Sunday when i picked most of my melons but i still have 1 growing that was pollinated August 5th so i was going to grow that one out and be done... I guess i just don't learn very easy i was looking at my 267 Edwards plant yesterday it's huge and still in good shape there must have been at least 30 lil baby melons all about 3 days old or so..So what did i do i went around the whole plant and looked at all of the lil babies got my pocket knife out and started culling, i picked out one beautiful baby long and straight.. i moved some vines around got a rack and 2x4's out and set it up...Looks like i'm good for another 60 ride...

I'm disappointed in my efforts this season! We got busy with baseball and kinda let the patch go. I did get a cross I wanted to do though, if the seeds haven't all germed inside the melon...

I really love this time of year. All the pressure is gone & the weighoffs are here at last. This is the really fun time to show what we have grown , see what others have, & talk to the other growers in person. Hope to see everyone at one of the weighoffs. Bear Wallow here we come !

I love these days. BUT.... I wish I was wondering should I pull it this week or will it hold together one more. Can I get just a couple more pounds. Will another week give me a new World Record or, disaster!
Sometimes pressure/stress is exciting. It's even fun to read about.

Don't worry Wayne. I had a hard time getting another lope to grow without spliting. I have culled about a dozzen split lopes before finally getting one that looks good. Only 10-15 lbs now, so its staying home.

Wayne, if your asking me, yes mine are still growing....or were....this cold rain may have stoped em again. They didn't like the week of clouds that Lee brought, & have been growing with the sun & warm temps we had this week. I wonder if the utility co would mind me moving some of the streetlights.....

Dave, well its not cut & dry. Bear Wallow is easy, that one is set to be loaded in the morning. The ones for elkin & Allardt could go either way since both are close to the same & the smaller is gaining fast on the bigger one. The smaller faster one is also a 239 Leonard, & we KNOW what that seed can do ;) !!
