I tried this cross both ways but they failed to take just like most of my pollinations this year.

Jake, I did both ways. The 291 X 285 ended at 58 lbs at day 25. I hope the seeds are viable. The melon is sitting out here aging.
The 285 X 291 is still growing & doing very well.
I hope your 291 does great. I'll be looking for some of those seeds ! Thats a super cross !

I think a melon stopping at a small weight is because the grower picked it or there is a problem with the vine. The genetics would still be great. I would want to grow it.

It stoped at 58 cause thats the plant that the stump rotted.

I don't think stump rot is genetic. After having it two years in a row with all different melons, I think I have a handle on what has been causing the problem.

I think you've got some good crosses there Chris. Seems both seeds are doing really well this year.

Quick question...90#'s in less than 30 days, is that a keeper? Also, curious if 1592 is a melon? or if pkn stump rot, and melon stump rot are connected in any way? Peace, Wayne
