Well it has been so hot here lately. Starting to clean up the dead or dying plants today. Only had one pumpkin plant this year it goes today. Already cleaned up one of the five melon plants we had and after taking a break will go out and start on another one. I can not believe how hot it has been this year. 105 to 112 here for a while and we are in one of the worse droughts I have ever seen. They are starting to ration water all around us, just not hit us here yet. About ready to give up, I have not had a good growing year here in about 5 years now. Maybe next year,,, LOL Good Luck to Everyone

Sorry to hear that Thomas. It is HOT here also, upper 90's with heat index around 115 last week then we got a couple days break, only in the low 90's. Now back to upper 90's low 100's for next week. I did manage to get 3 melons pollinated during the break in the heat last week. Not going to be monster melons but we got the cross we wanted to do. We actually had a early start until one of the 15 storms we had ripped 4 plants out of the ground and we started over. The Field pumps are looking pretty sad at this point also...

We have had over 30 days of over 100 degrees so far. I battled it as long as I could trying to keep enough moisture on the ground around the plants but just was not enough with the sun scorching everything above ground. I even had 5 fifty foot rows of sweet corn and never got an ear off any of it, just plume burn it up. As much as okra loves the hot weather it is not even growing hardly. I wanted so bad to have a good year this year and went as far as I could with the melons and pumpkin plant. I feel so let down this year as hard as we worked. I even had a white greenhouse shade cover over the pumpkin plant and a very nice watering system and that still was not enough. Used some melon seeds this year that I will probably not be able to find again. With our temps being as high as they are here I don't even want to know what the heat index is.

Thomas sorry to hear about your season ending so soon. Hopefully you can glean something positive out of this year. Maybe get some crops started to come in later this fall when things cool off. Hopefully you will get some rain soon. Can't grow anything without that!

I am sorry to hear about your heat and drought conditions Thomas. Those type conditions seem to have hold of a great deal of the country right now.Well it is what it is. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon.If you can't do it this year there is always a good chance next year will be better.

It is not here also, but not that hot. It was 84 at 8 am. The problem I have is that last Friday I had 6.5 to 7 inches of water fall in my garden in just a few hours. Serious flooding and wash-outs.
At this point I only have 2 of my 6 plants with fruit growing. I am about to yank the other 4 and just concentrate on the possible.

Its been a tuff year for a lot of people this year the weather is crazy. 100+ in May and this Sunday was in the 70's. Finally getting some sun after two weeks of clouds here.

David temps should be right this week. Rain may be washing your pollen before they open. Are they just aborting?

I was greeted today with the best birthday present. Cooler dry air coming through the window. It made my two hours in the garden this morning less of a sweat event. For those keeping track, I figure I am now middle aged. Of course I have to live to 100 to prove it.

Craziest thing I have ever seen, near 100 in Michigan and 88 in Georgia. Of coarse with 800% humidity still feels hot.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It has been hot here, and now it's better. As tallcorn said, my chickens are no longer laying hardboiled eggs.
