When a grower uses a systemic insecticide like Bayer Tree & Shrub are the melons produced still nutritious or any god at all for eating? I know several of you growers are using it and I bought some for my plants and am just wondering.I think it is great for insect control.

If you've eaten a melon from the store, chances are it recieved Admire or a generic. Imidachloprid is labeled for melons. 21 day PHI

TD, not positive...but think it means it's okay to eat as long as 21 days have gone by since you applied it...doesn't make a lot of sence to me cause it is systemic, but who knows!!! I am sure someone does!!! LOL Peace, Wayne

Bayer also has Fruit Citrus and Vegetable Insect Control: http://www.bayeradvanced.com/insects-pests/products/fruit-citrus-vegetable-insect-control. It contains .23% Imidicloprid, the T & S contains 1.47%. It also recommends 21 day PHI. We've been putting Imid. on our pets for years in the form of flea drops which contain 9% Imid. Who knows how safe it really is.

I know alot of pumpkin growers use Bayer, but is there any melon growers that have used it? Is it close to the same percentage as admire?

I have used it on my competition melons when I was out of admire. Same rate as for AG's. I currently use Mana alias 4F, 42.3%. Much cheaper per dose. I think Bayer T&S is 1.47%
