is it possabile i planted my cantelope too close to my watermelon???? there about 8 feet apart both going in same direction but watermelon is just getting its 4th. leaf cantelope is 3 feet long and going, my thought is the roots from the cantelope are hurting the watermelon from growing is this possable??? thanks pizza i also planted them both on a one foot hill to let water drain off of stump easier is that a mistake???

Good drainage is critical so I don't think a foot high hill could be anything but helpful.

Hey Pizza, I think the more room you give the roots to grow without any competion is always better. However we don't always have the land so we do the best we can with what we have. This year I am giving my melons a 35x35 area and allowing the plant to reach 400 sqft. Last year all plants ran together and I had a hard time telling which melon went to which plant, it looked a bit junglish.
