There were over 44,000 out of power in Knoxville at the worst point. It was said to be comparable to the outages from an ice storm. And the storms forecast in eastern Tennessee for today could be even worse the meteorologists are saying.

And all we have is rain and threatened snow. At least the grass is green, and the weather somewhat stable.

Did ya'll get tornados up there David. We were very fortunate. Line after line went above and below us. There was alot of devastation in Georgia and Alabama.

Jake, we had a lot of hail here in Knoxville. There were several tornadoes in Tennessee though. There were thousands of damaged cars and roofs around this ares from the hail. It wasn't so bad right here where I live but several of my plants were damaged severely. It doesn't take much hail to tear up a small melon plant. If I had known I would have covered them up. I will be moving in some of my backup plants to take over for some of the more damaged plants. Too bad I don't have duplicates as I will be now growing some plants that may not be as genetically appealing. I want to go ahead with plants I already have growing instead of waiting for more to germinate and grow. With melon growing time of possibly over 100 days I believe I need the biggest early plants I can get so I can begin setting melons in early to mid June.

Seems most of the hail comes early in the season when their the smallest. Ussually find my self running to the patch with wash tubs and buckets at least once a spring.

Speaking of improvising, I notice Bro Dave maybe in the running for redneck engineer this year. Check out his wind break. It is great, I was slightly disappointed there was no duct tape involved though.
