I think I will tattoo my Melons this year either engraving or non removable ink for theft purposes,prize money tempting for some hate to say it.

Yes, and then there are the ignorant teens who may come along and destroy nice melons just for a "kick".I may have to sit up nights with my shotgun. :)

My biggest was stolen last year, it was estimated at 292 lbs.
Ha! Just kidding about the weight, it was actually about 180. And did get stolen while we were gone to a Fall Little League game. I would think anything you marked melons with could be easily removed, just whittle off the markings, or sand paper would work too. Maybe you could micro-chip them Mark... LOL!

Seriously, I believe boys have been stealing melons probably about as long as people have been growing them.I think there is little we can do about it besides keeping close watch.

Most melon related criminals probably eat the evidence within the first 48 hours, so not sure a tattoo would help much. Although a few steel traps might work just great. Then at church on Sunday, just look for those with a limp!

Yeah if they scrape off tatto you will see the spot so you will know its yours at a weigh off.They wont steal them for eating purposes.I have a sign that reads 1 of these melons are poisioned!

Mark, as long as yer gonna tattoo em, look for corporate sponsorship!!! Local Ford dealership might pay a shiny penny or two, for that 300#er w/ Ford logo tattooed on it!!! Pkns have been tattooed lot's of times, (light engraving while young) ?? Would this work w/ melons? Peace, Wayne
