Hi,Does anyone know if its better to place pot and all in ground as is , or carefully peal back sides or bottom before placing it in ground?Going to attempt two week earlier planting indoors with larger 5" peat pots under lights.i heard the watermelons do not like transplanting...Thanks,mike.

the foot bound thing is overrated I planted a root bound yellowed ugly plant on June 7th it grew to 181 pds,in 1998.A little root bound means very little.I cut pots away from plant whatever I use dont, try to dump them out,to risky.Get new pots every year, there free at garden center dumpsters,& I find them at the curb,Im a Picker!lol

Plant outside if warm enough melons dont grow under 55 degrees you should be hiitting 70s by day & 50s by nite,or they will set there & do nothing, they may even go backwards if to cold, use cold frames if needed.

Put in Bigger pot if to cold out, 1 gallon will buy you 2 weeks,Acclimate a little each day if possible or place fan in room with plant, just enough to move leaves around to make plant stronger. This maybe more info than wanted sorry if so lol

Yes, don't disturbe the roots when planting. if you can carefully peel some of the peat pot sides when planting, thats ok, but DON"T make it fall apart ! A few roots on the outside disturbed=ok, inside structure = bad.
mark is correct, they won't grow if cold.
