I've never filed and it seems a good seed will break through just fine and as nature intended. I suppose it might help for a weak seed though.

It did reach 30 degrees this morning, but I suspect the 2 foot of snow in the garden might prevent me from thinking of gardening yet. I expect to start seeds later this month once I return from watching my son springboard dive at NCAA II National Championships in Texas for a week. I hope the weather in San Antonio will be warm enough to get me thinking about spring.

James you must be a very proud parent to have your son competing in a national championship. It must make you fell that you have done a lot of things right. Well I hope he wins first place.

What's funny is that my son Christopher has in the past always been my best culler in the garden. He find every one of small melons I have missed. Of course he then does a side arm toss of the melon towards me if I happen to be in the garden also.
This is his second year of qualifying for nationals, since he also qualified as a freshman. Last year he took 9th on the 1 meter, and 5th on the 3 meter board. Yes I am very proud of his achievements, and have hopes for him to do better this year.
Last summer he had a "job" in Williamsburg VA diving for Busch Gardens at Water World. There is just something about being paid to stand around in your Speedo all summer long.
