I remember reading someone or I think it was a company is donating some money to be used as a prize for any of our club members grow a world record big melon. That is very nice and it got me to thinking of all the interest that would be generated in our club by having a prize that grows until it is won. I would think 5 or ten cents out of every dollar collected might go toward such a prize. Of course it might not ever grow much with Clark I mean Chris Kent setting a new world record every year. Mull it over. I just think it would add extra excitement and help increase membership levels.

All ideas are welcome. That sounds like a good idea to do at some point, we will see how the memberships & auction goes. Don't want to over promise

If you grow a world record you will already win 1st prize!Which is going to be real impressive already. We will not change prize structure this first year.It is what it is!Were open to ideas for next year! Thanks for input!

I don't think TD is talking about changing the prize structure. But instead of a BONUS for a member growing a new WR. What you and I talked about in KY, me sending the club $100 for new WR. This is in addition to the pay out for the top 5 melons. If no one grows a new WR, it carries over to the next year. I think what TD is getting at is if no one wins it this year, come up with a way to add to it for next year. And so on...

We will have to get a general idea how the masses feel!Personally I would like to see money spread to more people, instead of 1 guy or gal getting it all,But we will get a general consensus on all ideas before implementing anything.

That's right Dwight, I just think it would be exciting and a great stimulus toward getting new members to join if we had a jackpot that grew yearly until it is won. That could be a considerable sum of money if no new record is set for several years.Think of the incentive to join if we had a prize of $25,000.00 for a world record like Snapple did a few years ago. I think that rather than causing prize money to be spread thinner that all prizes would perhaps increase a great deal due to new growers joining to have a shot at the big prize. I also agree that more members would be happy with prize results if prize money was spread out among more people. If the same big name growers take most of the money year after year I think membership would eventually suffer to the point of making the organization fail.

2008, 5th was 216. 2009, 5th was 219 2010, 5th was 230
so all of the growers on this site can win. Also, the same person has not won back to back, so that leave me out of top prize !

I'm sorry, is there a rule that states the same person cannot win back to back?

I don't even like the idea of the same person not being able to win back to back. That would mean that if Chris grew another world record next year he would get nothing from the GWG. That just doesn't seem fair.We don't want growers declared ineligible because they won last year. All I wanted was some consideration of the idea of having a special progressive prize for a new world record. And I agree with Handyhomegrown that it would be good to spread the prize money among more places so that there will be more winners. Winning feels good and if more members are able to win something I think there will be more satisfied members. Perhaps you fellows might give this some consideration for next year as it is clear there will be no further changes made in the offering for this year.

Yeah A person can win 5 years in a row if he or she grows it they win it.1 prize per member, per year! That means Top 5 prize winners will not be in raffle either will committee members.I like the idea of a rolling WR prize,But like the Kins I think you will see the record broke each & every year from here on out. This sport is growing faster than we think.I think our auction starting tomorrow evening will blow you away. There are more growers out every day. This is Good clean Fun!!
