I found some spider mite colonies in my plants. I know they can be a real pain, especially when growing indoors. I am growing outdoors. Which miticide have you had the most success with? The only systemic I see online is "Kontos" and it is really expensive. I worry about using any contact insecticide because its really hard to access the bottoms of the leaves in the whole patch. Thanks for any recommendations.

Bifenthrin is somewhat reasonably priced but it is a contact. You would just need to focus on where you are seeing them and keep working a wider circumference.

I like Avid. Not cheap though. And hard to get in California. Ebay might be a way to get it.

Avid is good miticide but I think it only kills adults not eggs and nymphs it needs to to be combined with another miticide or two depending on what you can purchase

The other option is to spray it every 7 days. In about 3 weeks you will catch every cycle. I use a different brand called lucid but the active ingredient is abamectin. I think it is considered semi systemic. Meaning it penetrates into the leaves but does not move through the plant. I only use a 1/2tsp per 1000sqft foliar, so a bottle will last nearly forever.

Yeah abamectin is the same active ingredient in Avid. I got mine in the mail yesterday. I assume with mites you have to spray the undersides of the leaves which is really challenging on a 1000 sq/ft. plant...

I thought two spotted and most other mites have as little as 5 day cycles 7 days doesn't work for us and mites get resistance very quickly

Hydrogen Peroxide at the right strength will kill aphids, mites and other soft bodied inspects and also control PM. It also helps battle other diseases. It won't kill eggs either. So we just have to spray more frequently for a few cycles.
