Pumpkin made it to Dap 22 at a weight of 275 lbs and dropped off over the last few days to 2-3 lbs/day. The pumpkin is in great shape and the plant is healthy. Vine was inspected with no problems. Plant looks no different than the day of pollination. No leaves are showing any flagging, no insects whatsoever. The other plants have no problems and all plants are taken care of the same way. The pumpkin is off the ground with no leakage coming from it. Everything has been previously dead headed way before this took place so I have no clue what could have happen. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hopefully its a measuring error. I did that once, just about pulled a whole plant because of some silly mark on my measuring tape that I interpreted wrong. Put a stick in the ground next to it, a couple inches away. See if it closes the gap over the next few days.

I measured it numerous times over the last couple days and do have a few things around it that the pumpkin doesn't get any closer to.

Mole activity nearby? A split under the pumpkin that you cannot see? Sorry you lost it. Have u dug a test pit to check the soil moisture? Sometimes they can be partly dry or part of the irrigation system can quit they wont wilt but the rootzone will be very restricted. But that would probably cause a gradual slowdown not a quick halt.

Anyone with knowledgeable clues as to what to do to re-start a pumpkin's growth??? I had two/3 last year that went without fertilizer in the drench water for like 2 weeks and they each became malformed, but each started growing again upon starting up the standard but more-frequent dosage of the fertilizer again, butt I wanna hear some experts' opinions over the next few days as to what to do.
I believe that the ferts in the root zones all around the plant have been run down due to the rapidly-growing pumpkin.
At the time of the pic, the fert was water-soluble 8-15-36 - A good deal, too, upon researching, lol---

PS---The Stick Trick works best at less than one inch away, else it's like watching an unplugged clock.

Have you got any side vines still growing or main runner I find when I stop everything I ended up with phytophora or foaming stumps best to keep some tips going

Everything is dead headed, the irrigation is fine, no mole activity, Its going on a week since it started from 35 lbs a day down to basically no change in measurement. No smell of pumpkin rotting or leakage of any kind. The pumpkin just looks like it did color & shine before this happened. Looks like its frozen in time.

Had this happen to me before and it turned out to be main vine dried up right at the stem. Looked fine but wasn't. Check main vine close to stem. Never seen it before but it stopped dead like you're saying. This can be seen in my 2020 diary September 7th entry 77. Not real good with computers so I couldnt give you a link.

I had this happen at 440 lb. a couple of years ago. Vine was rotted at a buried spot that I couldn't see. A plant can look fine even when the main or any other vine is rotted completely in half since there are usually enough roots by this time.

Update on the pumpkin status. I had two other people from my area in Pa that also grow pumpkins over that live near me and we couldn't fine anything and 100% the pumpkin was done growing! We decided to start with the pumpkin and inspect it inside and out and found no problems. We started up & down stream near the pumpkin on the main and nothing. We inspected the top of the main back to the stump and than rolled it over after cutting the secondary vines off at the main. Again everything was good. The stump was removed from the ground and was perfect and actually was the biggest root system I have ever seen look like what a small tree would have. Split the vine with a knife and it was very healthy and no bore activity. Did the same with the secondary vines and the rest of the main still nothing. All we can figure it was some how some way just that pumpkins time. This was the fastest to grow plant I ever had with most secondary vines at 20 feet. The pumpkin took off really quick and was the biggest I had at a DAP of 22 days. It was out pacing my 1630 I grew a couple years ago. I have no doubt it would be pushing one ton when all done! I got this pumpkin seed as a gift from a family member and I can tell it had great genetics with the growth. This was the 2365 Wolf I grew and sadly lost. Well Pumpkin Girl, you've had the answer all along and only just now revealed in your last post: Your trying to grow pumpkins in PA! LOL

I'll just say that of the four years I've been in PA this year has had the most extremely hot weather. I have to think the heat has something to do with it. But who knows?
