Now is a pumpkin plant doing more of it's feeding through the leaves or the vine root system this time of year? My vines roots look about finished but the leaves are in really good shape!

I am wondering the same thing. Now that cooler, damp weather is here, does having extra roots just increase the odds of a split, or drain the plant's energy? I spent all summer trying to dial things in, but now that the weather has changed, I don't feel like I know what I am doing, lol.

In my opinion, the end of the season is no different. Roots shouldn't hurt a plant or drain it's energy and they should look healthy at the end since they are under the plant in the soil if the plant is healthy. I foliar my micros and calcium and drip fertilize small spoonful's of needed nutrients, most growers do tissue tests for what is needed. I live in a warmer climate but assume it wouldn't be too much different for you there

Duster is one of my favorites! He was the first patches I went to when I first started growing many years ago. I learned a lot from him. He grows in a climate where in commonly gets 100 to 110. I don't know how he does it but every year he shows up with a nice fruit!
I've never seen a plant that had bad vines but great leaves? Interesting... It must be the newer growth way outside the patch? If the vines are toast, its going to be hard to get anything through those vines and into the fruit at this point.
