I'm curious. Approximately how much do you spend per season on your pumpkin? (Not counting what you think your time is worth)

By the end of this season, I'll have put in about $300, but I'm very new to this.

I'm about where u are Andrej. But it takes a lot of effort & discipline to stick with the bare essentials and the least expensive methods.
And I've only got one full size plant and one semi-neglected 150 square foot plant. Fertilizer, seeds, a tissue test, hose repair/sprinklers, seed starting mix...
It would cost more but I already have some things from previous years like greenhouse plastic, pvc and t-posts.
Wish I could do it for $200... but by the end of the year I'll be over budget by 2x. It adds up.
For a lot of growers, its probably a fun way to spend at least 2k.

Typically I do about 300-400 a pumpkin, but I also have all the stuff already, some insecticides and fungicides are expensive but some those bottles will last a lot of years. Then there are upgrades, like this year I spent 400 bucks upgrading the watering system, but that will also be usuable for years to come.

I usually get back all of the money spent in a year between prize money at weigh-offs, and the occasional pumpkin sale. This year with four plants going, I'd better have some good sized pumpkins at the end of the season to break even lol.

I just looked at my amazon history and I have spent $570 on growing supplies for this season. I also spent $250 at WOW and another $220 at Hollands. So I am over $1000 for my 3 plants.

That’s like asking a fisherman how much he spent on the boat, tackle, rods etc to figure out how much each of the fish he caught cost him. It’s a hobby. Spend what you need/can afford so you can enjoy yourself in the patch.

Some things you don't have to buy every year. For instance irrigation equipment like sprinklers, pumps, etc. Fertilizer is what it is. When I figure the amendments I just buy it and it could be a couple hundred bucks.

Lets see, electricity could be $100 a month, about 350 litres of Diesel for the heaters so thats about $500 needed a water tank $1600 … its a long list but probably average $3000

I am way over these numbers...I spent over $40,000 in the last few years, just to convert my beach sand to something that I can grow in. Of course, a majority of that cost was for the compact tractor and dump trailer. I probably would have to figure yearly depreciation to add that to the yearly total. My costs going forward will be less now that I have what I have. For me it is hobby. The percentage of my income that I have reserved for my hobby has paid me back with high intangible value.

I have a friend who spends 12,500 euros on a bicycle, another 6000 euros on a hunting rifle, and another 6000 on permits to hunt deer. Another one that bought a car for 80,000 euros. I don't feel guilty about having spent 5000 euros on a greenhouse 6 years ago, or 1000 euros this year when I change the plastic.

Or in purchases of fertilisers or seeds. It's my hobby, it's what I enjoy. I always prepare the season in November, I've been doing this for 4 years, I make a list, a price list with everything I'm going to use. I'm spending little by little every month, so that it doesn't show up on the account, and Anabel doesn't tell me anything :)) Now I'm lucky that my sponsor gives me the substrates and fertilisers for free. But there are products that do not have, such as mycorrhizae, essential, perlite, fans, or gasoline lol. The important thing I think is if you spend, spend on something good that lasts many years, my dosatrons, are mixrite, 1 working well since 2016, the other I bought second-hand 2 years ago, I used to buy Chinese, and they did not last a month. I'm sure that a bicycle for 12,500 euros, if it were mine, I would sell it to make a bigger greenhouse. :)))

I am sure there would be even more responses to this thred or perhaps some of the ones that did answer might have come in a we bit higher if there was no fear of a significant other reading this post..
Seriously though it can vary from year to year and many times the upgrades you make and things that you purchase provide many years of service. A sheet of mill fabric lasts forever, a bag of ureamate last for many years, a bag of ureamate, a fertilizer injector, a roll of drip tape will all give a grower many seasons of use.
