Is it better to fill in empty space with tertiarys from last secondary before pumpkin or secondarys just after kin? Thanks!

Fisherray, since we usually terminate the main vine after the chosen pumpkin, we have no other choice and do exactly what you said and use the last secondaries before the pumpkin to grow tertiaries to fill in the vacant space.

For me, it works wonderfully and makes an easy to manage patch and all growth is behind the (sink) pumpkin.

Maybe use both, in my own patch, I am leaning towards pushing some more growth after the pumpkin, if its a latge plant. I think it might help make a little bit better use of the patch to "throw the weight of the plant forward" so to speak. (Possibly.)

If you want to fill in space past the pumpkin your options are to either

A) let the main vine keep growing past the pumpkin and fill it in with secondaries that grow off of it

B) to cut the main after the pumpkin and fill it in with the tertiarys that grow from the last secondaries

C) to cut the main after the pumpkin and redirect the secondaries from behind it to fill in the space

All 3 are fine in my opinion
