How many people put a pallet Under their, pumpkin this time of year?

No one that I know does that. Most wait until weigh off time to lift and get up on a pallet. It is sort of an old wives tale. (that we grow them on a pallet)

I originally thought pallets were being used a lot but now it seems to me that the play is to grow it on the ground with some kind of barrier between the pumpkin and the ground that can shed or drain water. To move the pumpkin, assuming it's big enough, you would rig up a chain hoist and ring lift to get it onto a truck.

Mill fabric is the way to go if you can get it. Most put whatever they are using down well before the pumpkin is growing. Those stems snap very easy anytime after DAP 5.

I grew mine on a pallet last year because the greenhouse roof is too low to accommodate lifting gear.

I think also that it's cool as heck to grow on a solid substrate that is able to be pulled to accommodate stem stress and perhaps removal from the patch area---I have a thing I call 'The Spatula' for small-to medium pumpkin in-yard transport, but not for anything in-season, lol---eg

By risk, I meant lifting the pumpkin and vine up to get the pallet slid under it. I would not want to break the stem doing it. Thanks everyone for your replies.

Yeah, I think if you want to grow on a pallet then that decision needs to happen by 10 DAP or it will be difficult, and perhaps more risky.

Used to grow all of ours on a pallet before getting a lifting ring a couple years ago. Made it easier to load in the fall with the neighbor's tractor and pallet forks. Now that we have the ring, probably 50/50 depending on the situation after pollination.
