I believe there used to be a thought that what the pollinator grew was important. With that in mind why are people not going after the 2332 in the auctions. As best as I can see according to the Patons diary the 2356 was pollinated by the 1885 that grew the 2907. Or am I wrong about which plant pollinated
Or is that thought no longer in vogue?

Pollinator very critical indeed good observation. We always felt the pollinator determined color? But that was years ago. The evolution of AG with color and size today so heart warming!

Its like the 800 Mcmullen or the 1300 Gienger. Probably every bit as good but (fortunately for penny pinchers) will remain priced exactly the same as any other seed, until somewhat proven.

This is a very conjecture-motivated spobby where seeds that just now came out of a pumpkin can command more respect than ones that have even grown over 2K several times. I guess we're all ((seed stock) market) participants, to some extent. eric g

This year does seem a little odd at the auctions with more interest in certain hot-but-unproven genetics and a lot of proven 2K+ growers flying comparably under the radar. Perhaps the increased number of one-ton fruit these days plays some part in it, but there's a lot of good genetics getting grabbed up for little $$ by people who know where to find real value.

I'm growing that 2332 and gave my 2907dmg to a friend so i think theyre equals on paper. We'll see how wise or stupid i am during the 2023 season.I'm hoping that was a poor choice -I want to see him succeed.

How about the 1940 Urena which produced the 2656. Don't see much talk about that one. I'm hoping to get my hands on one. I think reality is that many pumpkins will be grown from a combination of the 2365, 2520, 1885, and the two Paton monsters so by quantity they have the better chance of producing more big pumpkins.

That’s an excellent point @Garwolf and a seed that I’m very confused about.
We grew it because it was only grown by a couple of growers in 2021 and the average was massively heavy.
Jason had his 2356 12% heavy, Leonardo had his 19I0 11% heavy so I can see why it went under the radar last year.
But after last year when ours only missed the WR by about 46lbs and went 12% heavy. Luc’s from Belgium grew his 2027 5% heavy. Cindy grew her 1989 18% !!!!!! Heavy.
If you haven’t been able to afford a Werner or a Wolf and have brought a 1940 instead, all I can say is well done you.
Can it grow a WR ? %100 it can.
Is it about the most “stable seed out there 100% it is.

The 1940 Urena grew me the largest pumpkin that I've ever got to the scale at 1779 pounds and also 12% heavy! I've grown for many years and I found that pumpkin to be solid and trouble free. Looking at a picture of my pumpkin and a picture of the Paton's 2656 they look like sisters (mine being the younger sister of course, haha!) I'm giving the 1940 a go again this year! Leonardo Urena is one of the greatest growers in this game, a true ambassador of the sport, he is friendly, knowledgeable, and giving of his time and thoughts on growing. Randy

That 2656 looked to be a awesome fruit.Everything youd want in a pumpkin. Orange, smooth,heavy to the chart.world champ for 2022. But then theres that other 542" elephant in the room.What a crazy season.
