The first link below is a University of Illinois presentation on vermiculture AKA vermicomposting, AKA worm composting, AKA production of worm castings. I just started trying this (see photos of my redneck engineering worm bin in my diary)

The second link is a very good explanation of the nitrogen cycle as it relates to soil bacteria etc. Very easy to understand. Don't be fooled by the first slide - this is not a video on nitrogen producing cover crops.
