I've seen people using wheat straw, leaves, and even landscape fabric as mulch around their vines. My vines go commando but I can think of both good and bad mulching outcomes. Anyone out there using mulch succesfully?

Calm down, you have all winter to ask your questions, you don't have to post them all at the same time!
Just kidding, I like all these conversations lol

A certain grower in Canada , used the solar green IRT plastic film mulch, with outstanding results !! something I will definitely be looking into ,something most far north growers should consider

I have had trouble finding anything guaranteed to be glyphosate-free.

Mulching could be the way of the future. They could help growers to achieve bigger plants early in the season. Because the plastic mulches can help increase heat in the soil and also the reflective light for the leaves which really make them grow. This grower did a great job with the white reflective mulch. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=333051

I was thinking of running a long strip of some type of landscape fabric, may be what you mention above, along the main vine since that's where access to weeds is limited. I guess cut holes at leaf nodes along the way.
Ashton - you're a valuable member of the brain pool; try to keep up. It takes a tremendous amount of "Brain Picking" to grow the first 3,000 pounder. LOL
