They like pumpkin, and most other organic material. I've grown my heard to two bulk fruit bins feeding them primarily off horse manure, they're doing great and multiplying even in the winter, there are lots of worm eggs. Should have about 1-2 cubic yards of castings in the spring.

I have a 16 square foot worm bin in the back yard and all of our kitchen scraps go in it. I add scraps every 4-6 days and rotate the location. By the time I come back to the original spot, the worms have taken care of it all. Great worm castings to add to my wife's vegetable garden. (She won't let me have them for the 'kins, darn it.) I figure it saves me about a garbage can a month. A nice way to supplement the garden, save money and landfill space. There are lots of website with how-to info. My only suggestion is to build one bigger than you ever think you'll need. Too small and you'll end up overwhelming the little wrigglers.

Whidbey just make more worms and get more scraps! I'm still expanding my population, I'll probably build s raised worm bed to keep the population growing.

Also the worm population in the soil around the bins is pretty high, idk if they're the nightcrawler worms, they're more the grey color you see in earthworms. Maybe that's just the effect of a low OM diet
