Lots of interesting crosses done this year. What is going to be the next great seed with world record potential? What seed comes from a pumpkin that might be a little lower on the radar, because it was lost early or if the full story of it was told might make a grower want to grow it next year?

I know I’m biased…but I really like my 1989.5 it went 18% heavy cross was 2356 Mendi x 1747.5 Handy. I lost 1/3 of the plant in August do to disease and I also cut it off the vine early Friday and loaded it Friday night :( mistakes where made that definitely cost me weight but o well… I’ll know for next time!

Tcon that’s an awesome pumpkin! Not really a sleeper but I’m excited to see what the 2480 Graham grows. Also watch out for the 2195 Kisamore! Come on April!

Tanner, I trust your seed. I have faith that he will do something great. I'll try it with her. You know that I plant 30 seeds, but 2 of them will be 1989.5. I like that genetics a lot, I also think it is one of the most beautiful pumpkins of 2022.

Thank you Ruben! I agree the shape of that fruit was perfect! If anyone will grow a record with it you will :)

Lots of very good looking genetics in the GPC results… some non-1885 descendants that caught my attention are the 2656 Paton and Dave Stelts’s 1953 Daletas / 1686 Stelts crosses. Others that I suspect will be very good are the 2424 Caspers, 2405 Gunstrom, and 2493 Wolf. I’ll be trying my 720est for sure- 2365 Wolf x 2702 Cutrupi that split at 35 days.

I can't wait to see what people can do with my 2424, loaded with 1885 and 2183. Iam probably going to cross it with the 2365 Wolf this next summer. Also going to cross my 1707.5 with it as well.

First of all I’m amazed that the 1940 has escaped so many growers radar.
For me Andy is the new Joe Pukos on the block.
His crosses are inspirational. Not only have they turned out huge pumpkins, they are all impressive “pumpkin” looking pumpkins. He’s teamed up Quinn’s awesome crosses adding more fantastic shape and colour.
The 2493 was an amazing and impressive shape with the massive bonus of heavy.
Quinn’s monster maker helped us grow the 2907 which was without doubt the most impressive pumpkin I’ve ever seen and we easily left 200lbs in the patch.
Throw in some of Rubens genetics and exciting times are ahead.

Tanner your 1989.5 is going to be a monster maker for sure! All the 1747.5 offspring were 15 to 20+ heavy and good looking too!

Dale,,,,, I've heard of this happening from some of the best growers in the world! There's always a chance and what a blessing getting your hands on that seed!
Every person I spoke with ( sorry Andy W. ) said it was a plant and fruit that just kept growing, while all others had all but stopped.
Can't wait to see you grow it next year!!

And Tanner, if that happens,, in 2024 when my disease treatment is completed, I will!:):)
Congrats again this year Tanner! So proud of you!

No pic but it was pretty. It used to be hard to find 2k orange genetics. Now, ones like this one could go under the radar.

Here's the pic for that one. I'll find a spot to squeeze one on here.

What a pumpkin! Or buyers can spend twice as much and get seeds from an even bigger one, you just cant go wrong.

I am hoping that pics of each and all progeny of the 839 Sandercock will be submitted to PumpkinFanatic to complete the much-deserved cycle. Seeing Ned's Diary entries always takes me back to better days and his great sense of humor, lol---There, see? I remember this one pumpkin crane...eg

I'll be looking for another 2365 Wolf and a 2560 Paton come auction time. Probably cant afford a 1885 :)

Last season I did a 1760.5 Uhlmeyer x 2365 Wolf and the reverse. Also, a 2200 Wolf x 1760. The 2200 is a 1885 x sib . Going to give the results a go this year along with the two I get at auction.

My pick for 2023 is the 2493 Wolf I think it will lead the pack along with its smaller Ma Ma the 2365 which is obvious.Cant grow wrong with a Orange Pumpkin. The 2560 Maverick is my second choice.Crossed with a great shaped orange sister it should do well.Big & ugly like the 2145 Mean Gene Mcmullen that produced many record breakers The heavy genetics are compounding so fast its making me BUSY! LOL

Mehdi posted some awesome pics of his 2045.9. That could be a good one. Mostly I think those Alaskan pumpkin seeds will do something big one of these days. Something special about crossing big pumpkins in the biggest US state.

If you want a sleeper Heavy Kin look at Ron Barker's 1363.

It was grown on a 1940 Urena and went 24% heavy. The pollinator was a 1747.5 Handy and the fruit that grew on the pollinator plant went 20% heavy. I'd like to see someone cross that one with Tanner's Pumpkin.
