Just curious as to who may have travelled the furthest to enter their pumpkin at a contest? And distance travelled? I recall my father many many years ago taking his giants to Circleville, Ohio and the Cornell Contest in PA. Also the year Donald Black brought his WR 884 from Winthrop, NY here to Windsor, N.S. back in the 1993, the first GPC event. Thanks Danny Dill

Deer Park WA

We traveled 407 miles from our farm in Deer Park WA to Baumans Farm And Garden weighoff in Woodburn OR, from there we traveled 190 miles up to Carpintino Brothers weighoff in Kent WA. Then we traveled 298 miles back home to Deer Park. Total of 895 miles round trip.

Yes a trip to Half Moon Bay would be a long trip Howard's trip to Circleville was 1,348 miles one way, about a 22 hour drive.

Yes, that's about a 35 to 36 hour trip from Travis and Josiah's area. I've done it before without a fruit,, its a long one!
We stop in the Colorado Rockies, fish, then get back on the road to LA for the 15 hour second leg of the trip.

Howard was the man!!! I've heard some great stories about him in the early 90's!:) What a great mentor he was. We need more Howards in our hobby!

Our only weigh off is only 75 miles round trip, not bad second and 3rd closest about 4000 miles round trip ..uumm probably not going ...

And overall cost, will be through the roof! They do this hobby for the love and not the money is why I love these guys so much! When growers start growing for the money, I'm sure it takes away all the fun.

Oh I know they will make that trip someday soon, its on their bucket list... and maybe next year is the year they bring a new world record over 3000 pounds to the US and collect the the fame.... and take that off the bucket list...!@!

Good point about the 1260 Weir pumpkin. That I do not know, however Howard had some of giants over the years flown to the Persian Gulf during the Gulf crisis, Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Edmonton, etc. I remember it well, we built wooden crates on a pallet, put the pumpkin in, packed it with straw then sealed it. Then off to our local airport in Halifax.

We were entered at Half Moon Bay, and had a huge pumpkin being shipped at a cost of $900 in 2007 but it went down days before the flight. I still flew 3126 miles one way from Boston MA to Half Moon Bay to attend that Weigh-off. 6252 miles round trip.
I wasnt entered in the following but... I flew 3262 miles (6524 RT miles) to attend the Sunny Fields Weigh-off in South Hampton England to see the Patons get a 2269 lb pumpkin get weighed in 2017.

Not a Weigh-off but in 2009 we had a pumpkin flown 6658 miles from Boston to Japan. It was put on a TV game show and cut in half as the contestants searched for seeds. We still have the video for that one

Similar to pumpconn. Farmer Gus flew a pumpkin from the Ottawa St Lawrence weigh off to Japan .

Todd Cottermans first Pumpkin ever grown.Ford bought the pumpkin from John Harnica & it appeared in a Ford Commercial driving around new York City a few months later.It was a 1200 lb HD I believe.Just a really cool ending to a Rookies first year growing.I love the memory's this pumpkin sport has made.

Steve C. your pumpkins getting blown up and dropped by Letterman was some of the best giant pumpkin publicity ever.Dont know the distance from your patch to atlantic city but it was a epic result.
