With all the big pumpkins grown this year my guess is the seed auctions will be interesting and profitable for the various clubs. Knowing what you know today and only given one choice what seed cant you live without?? (The 1885 is not an Option)
I'd go with a 2365 Wolf again. Maybe you don't want to divulge your top pick right now fearing that you might drive up the cost before the auction. Come on, just give it up! You know you'll change your mind twenty times by auction day.

If I were setting the odds, I would put the 2365 Wolf as the favorite to produce the next world record. The 2656 Paton looks really good. 2243 Stelts and 2424 Caspers look very promising too. The 2907 Paton kind of goes without saying.

I'm not very knowledgeable on current genetics, but the 2006 Wolf(a sibling cross) has me slightly tempted to get back to growing giant pumpkins again. It's one to consider if you are looking for big and orange potential. What a year Andy and his daughter had!

What kins this year had monster ribs like the 1686 Stelts did? Thats cool trait. A 1989.5 Tobeck... might make a nice pumpkin.

Gritty my 1989.5 had crazy big ribs 18% heavy too. The mother seed was the 2356 Mendi so it makes sense as it’s 50% 1686 stelts genetics. It definitely took after the 1686 IMO. I crossed it with the 1747.5 Handy. I think it could be a great cross for heavy!

Of course I’m biased a bit being it’s my my own seed :)

Gritty, Andy brought a pumpkin to the Ridgefield weigh off I attended. 1,120 Wolf. It was a beautiful deeply ribbed and orange. I think maybe the prettiest pumpkin of any kind I've seen. I wish I had a photo to post. Pretty sure he won the Dill there.

Bubba, I watched your YouTube film of Nut Tree. Hope you're better at picking seeds than you are estimating pumpkin weights :)

1989.5 x 1989.5 :) Some auction brochures have enticing pictures and if there's also a pic of what the seed's pollinator grew, I think thats where it gets really interesting. I saw a pic of a 2405 posted recently and it was a pretty one.

I might look at somebody the wrong weigh if I thought that that would get me another 2003 Haist; I have three crosses from it and two of them had the biggest leaves, at least, of any plants ever for me in '22; One of those crosses was from the 2003 being poll'd by my '20' Gerry, which is Prizewinner X 689.5 Sandercock, and the other is by my 301.5, so...probably a lot of orange potential there X 2 and they are each the 51 (Seed Y w. 20) and 50 (Seed X w. 301.5) Gerry of 2020.

So, 2003 Haist = GIMMMMEEEE!!!---eg

It's all purely conjecture, anyway, until a seed has been grown many times and has a track record on here or PumpkinFanatic. I, myself could recite about 15 seeds of my own that COULD grow the next World record, but that doesn't mean it'll happen, unless about 15 TOPPPPPP growers suddenly wonder 'WHAT seed are we gonna grow THIS year??? Hello, Mr. Gerry? Ummm,...'
See - not likely that will happen, either!

Bubba, I think we all do the same thing at the weigh off, i.e. guessing weights. I found myself guessing every pumpkins weight before they even went to the scale this year. Just kidding with you - it is fun! I'm not good at it either.
