I used Avid last season for Aphids. It took a while to work maybe because it's systemic and needed to get in the system. Anyone have a good contact pesticide for Aphids. I'm sure they're on the way.

Try marigolds. They attract ladybugs 🐞 that eat aphids.

Wile - I don't think there's enough lady bugs in PA to eat the volume of aphids that showed up last year. In any case it would be a slow process and the damage likely done before lady bugs completed the work. I'd prefer something more immediate. Maybe the Sevin with carbaryl works on aphids too.

SB invigorator is a safe, fatty acid based chemical that has a range of pest and disease uses. Don't know if it's available in the US?

Imidacloprid kills aphids. Merrit is the brand name although there might me generic versions. Its systemic and kills everything that eats the leaves its sprayed on. One spraying and the next day the aphids will be gone. And everything else that decided to munch on your pumpkin leaves.

Aphids shouln't be hard to kill, just about any contact insecticide will work, The problem is that Aphids are under the leaves and sometimes hard to get at with spray. Possibly The easiest solution would be the merit like Frank suggested.

This wouldn't work in the field but in a greenhouse setting mint can keep them away. Three years ago I lost a lot of pepper plants to aphids. Ever since I place mint plants inside and no aphids to speak of.

I do what VTJohn does. Works very well but its very important to get up and under each leaf.
1 spray and they'll be dead the next day.

Spray all stalks, vines, leaves top and bottom and you'll be surprised the next morning!

And most important, use the right ratio of product per gallon! It will burn your leaves if put on to heavy!

Garlic based spray for organic control. I will dust plants with sulfer or diatomaceous earth if too many bad bugs show up. Not sure either is totally effective, but it lets me think Im at least being a nuisance to them.

Merit 75 wsp. Can get it on Amazon, if its not restricted in your state. Also called Imidacloprid.

Do your local bees a favor, remove all flowers if you use imidicloprid.

Thanks for the info. I haven't seen them yet. I think they attacked in August last year.
