Has anyone used composted horse manure worked into your patch? If so, did you have good results or was it 👎?

A top level new york grower uses it. Maybe the more alfalfa they get fed, the better, idk...

My friend an I grew an 893 with it. That was off of an 11 year old seed planted in June. Only composted horse manure and a few added amendments. Highly recommend it. Just make sure there is not too much salt.

Ive been using it forever. I mix it with shredded leaves.I currently have a pile that composted over winter that took 4.5 months to cool off . some of it got up to 150 degrees. compost red wiggler worms will reduce it to worm casings this summer.

I'm not the top level new york grower, but i AM supposed to get about a 250-bushel honeywagon load of it this weekend and it is to be used for a record-smashing field pumpkin, (or vine-burying only, if my spreader breaks, lol) being that it is about 1.5 years old and ANYthing added where it will be will be (not stuttering) beneficial; i've not had any 'problems' with it and the main concern EVER is how much sawdust is included within it. this beggar cannot be a choosar - if it's OLD, it's GOLD! eric g

Some horse paddocks use a selective weedkiller which just kills broad leaved weeds, not the grass. This stuff goes straight through the horse and into the manure. Your pumpkins won't like it!! So make sure you select horse manure that comes from a non-contaminated source.

If you use too much your phosphorous levels can go through the roof

Make sure it is well composted. I got some and the weed seeds were not cooked . This is going on 10 yrs and I can't get rid of some of the weeds. Jim

Lots of folks use it, just be sure to keep an eye on your phosphorous levels when you do.

I've been using it on and off for years. Make sure it's been turned a bunch to break down, especially if it's had any sawdust in the mix.

I used it two years ago in one of my patches. Other than the copious amount of weeds I ended up I think it worked just fine. I think the manure I got was likely filled with whatever was used in the horse stalls in addition to whatever the horses ate.

I think it matters what your organic matter % is right now. If you don't need it, why add it?
