It is with a heavy heart that we pass on that one of the great Ladies of pumpkin growing has passed on. Geneva Emmons, you were a caring, wonderful supporter of all who wanted to learn this crazy hobby. We love you and will miss you so much! Joel and Mari Lou Holland

My dad took me out to her patch when I was about ten years old. Twenty years later I went back, I got some good seeds from her, and I was hooked! What an awesome grower.

So sorry to hear of Geneva's passing. She was a great pumpkin grower. One year she won every weigh off she entered. Not bad, considering she was up against Holland and Mombert! But more than that, she was a kind, considerate and compassionate woman. She was also an avid sports fan. We used to talk about how the Trailblazers and the Warriors were doing. Our condolences to her family.Pete and Cindi

A great lady. She drove all the way up to Whidbey one time to look at my modest patch and give me encouragement. My sympathy to her family.

I've used the 1262 and Geneva's talks to Joel on the Holland videos for my reference as to what the WR was at the time since 2001 and I will always be able to hear her voice whenever those memories cross my mind - May she rest in peace. eg

My condolences, I remember reading about her in Don Langevin's book. Don mentioned that he thought women were better growers and used her as an example.

Geneva was always very kind to me. When I was getting started in 1999, she later offered me some seeds...."real seeds" as she called them. I was very discouraged with my failures. I called her and asked if I would ever be good enough to win a ribbon at the Puyallup Fair. Twenty-three years have passed....and I'm still growing at 80.
