Giacomo “Jack” Vezzolo passed away suddenly at his home, the home he was born in on Hunter Lane on October 1st, 2021. His wife was by his side. He was born February 8th, 1934.
His parents Battista J. Vezzolo and Margarite (Valdez) Vezzolo were local dairy farmers in this valley for many years. They were parents of eight children. All have predeceased Jack except for one younger sister Flora.
After graduating Salinas High School class of 1952, he entered the Army and trained as a machinist. The plumbing trade was his occupation for the next 40 years working on the Monterey Peninsula. He was known as one of the best Master Plumbers in the trade. He retired after the building of the Embassy Suites in Monterey were completed.
Jack was a member of Sacred Heart Church, a lifetime member of the Plumbers Union #62, VFW Spreckels, California Giant Pumpkin Growers, and the California Deer Association.
A world class Giant Pumpkin was a dream that he harbored for many years. He did have the honor of weighing in the first 1,000 plus pound pumpkin grown in the state of California in Elk Grove. He was the winner of many awards and made friends from around the world. He loved to raise pumpkins but he was often teased to the fact that as a pumpkin grower he did not like to eat them in any form.
On the weekends you could see him headed south to his ranch in San Ardo, Ca. He and his son Jeff and his brother-in-law Jerry spent many years enjoying hunting and B-B-Queing for friends and family.
Jack and Lila (Porter) were married on February 9th, 1957, at Sacred Heart Church. They celebrated 64 years being together. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved him dearly and will always miss him. Visitation will be held 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. Friday, October 15, 2021 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St. Salinas, Ca. 93901
