Started it as a backup, outperformed the one I wanted so I kept it. Biggest plant I've ever grown. Day 28 230lb, but this season has been wet, and it was slow 2 grow until day 17. Going to be super orange. I'd grow it again.

There were three of them here in Holland. Two growers pulled theirs. I kept mine because I only had the one plant. Great plant, worst growing pumpkin ever. Like the other three here, misshapen fruit. Doubt if it will go the distance.

Mine did the same thing, great plant, the pumpkin would grow a bit and then get heavily ribbed and then stop growing. All the pumpkins did the same thing on the main and secondary vines, disappointing. Only have the 1938 Sperry left growing will be day 40 dap tomorrow. Thank you for the your feed back.

I have had them do that before too. Very frustrating.

Just curious how far along until they aborted? Any funky flowers?

Around day 5 they started getting ribbed and never amounted to much.

My first one aborted but my flowers were all jacked hit em with heavy phosphoric acid and been good since. Did put on 30lb day 29 so it's growing, I'll post back if it aborts or does anything funky.

Pulled mine today. Was growing less and less. Now only doing 10 lbs a day at day 24, from 20 lbs a day at day 20.

Interesting. My 1597 Hunt wouldn’t develop fruit either. Small heavily ribbed. Pulled the plant.

Sorry to hear that guys. It sucks putting that much effort & losing the plant. The 1939 was the most beautiful pumpkin we've ever grown, so not sure why they aren't growing kins. If your other pumpkins aren't growing at a fast pace now, you might want to check your nutrient levels. Too much nitrogen can cause aborting issues. It happened to us many years ago with a 1725 Harp seed. Huge plant, but everything aborted by day 15. We stopped using manure in our patch after that & haven't had any problems like it since.

Hi Jane & Phil, did you plant your 1939.5 this year and how they doing? My other plant the 1938 Sperry is over 700lbs.

Phil, I had one of those 1725 seeds as well. N was a tiny bit high and wouldn’t set fruit. I was thinking N may be the problem but ever since then I’ve tried to be n deficient by default. I didn’t soil test this year but I didn’t add anything this year either. Wasn’t sure if it was worth it after weighoff cancellation last year. Last year I grew a 1920 in that patch so yes, it could be hot lol. It’s a knife edge we live on, sometimes it cuts.

The growers here in Holland had multiple plants in the same plot. They are all doing well except for the 1939 and 1597, all of which (3 of them) have now been pulled. It is certainly strange.
