I see many use rope at the bottom of their lifting rigs (gathering rope?). Can anyone tell me what kind of rope to use? Last year was my first and I used a strap at the bottom. I'm hoping the strap will be too small this year. Thanks in advance for any help.

I got my rope online from knotandrope.com. Double braid nylon. It was either 1/2", 8500# or 5/8" 15,200#. $0.67 to 0.97 per foot. I lifted 1047# last year no trouble.

locally you might be able to buy some good rope used for livestock, but check the strength rating

Go with thicker rope ..at least 1/2 inch it makes tying knot and cinching rope a lot easier

Though nylon and polydacron ropes have great tensile strength they can stretch a lot which is not what you want when lifting a pumpkin. Polypropylene, Polyester and Kevlar have far less stretch. Be sure to pay the few extra bucks to have a braided loop in one end, well worth it.

If you have a monster kin make sure you get a long enough rope.. I have 2 lengths big and really big...
