I have a split about 20" long in the middle of my friut. Stem to blossom direction. It is about 1/2" deep. Must be due to lots of rain then sun. I did prune some today. I plugged it with Captan. What are my chances? Probably not so good. The friut is at 103-104" circ after 30 days. It was going on a good pace for a while. Slowed when the cold and rain came in. We had a two inches of rain Sunday and lots last week in bursts.

Rob, Linear splits as you've described can be salvaged. Keep it covered and dry until it heals and spray with calcium.

Sorry to see that split Rob. Hopefully you can keep it from cracking open.

Thanks Ken and Kahuna. I am patching it and keeping it dry. It may be okay.

Fingers crossed for you Rob.
The following is NOT a recommendation but I've heard some people do it.
Some tenured grower swear by the healing powers of that greenish "oozing stem snot" that many fast moving pumpkins drip. If you had another fruit (a severed secondary maybe?) you could try a partial cut in the stem (not a vine) to harvest "stem snot ooze".

Steve, I may try it. Are there not laws against Stem Cell generation with regards to surgery?
Thanks!!! So far so good. It has not increased and the Captan seems to be holding.
