I'm interested in the resulting cost per pound grown which people (like me) have spent when buying seeds at auction more than $200 a seed. I'll start...I paid $245 for an 845 Bobier at auction last year and grew my 873.5 Pugh from the seed...that is 28.99 cents per pound.

I spent 25.00 for a seed that grew a 670#er, which comes to 4 cents per pound. My 2nd pumpkin grew to 530 pounds,I paid 5 dollars for it and it comes to one cent for every pound.These did not come from auction but P&P though.

Well last year I spent $300.00 on a 723 Bobier. Had 3 pumpkins on it that weighed 1,062 pounds with the biggest being 598 pounds.
So if you take only the 598, it is 50 cents per pound
If you use total weight, it is 28 cents a pound
Also bought a 842 Eaton, 846 Calai, 898 Knauss which I gave to other growers.
But ask this question Next year LOL

Another question that should be asked also is what have you spent on the patch. Soils tests, Tissue tests, manure, sprinklers, pumps, hoses, fertilizers, hoop houses, heating cables, fans, misters, etc, etc in a 12 month period and I'll bet some of the numbers would be scary.

I know (mainly due to climate) I have probable spent $15,000.00 in the last 3 years. So what's $500.00 for a seed
And I'm putting up 3 more green houses this spring.
And to think I could have bought a Harley lol

HMMM, I spent 465.00 this year at auctions on bp.com, I didnt think it was that much till i added it up,lol. My wife would chit her pants if she found out,lmao,,,, I guess thats part of what makes this pumpkin growing fun!

Now add in minimum wage at 6 bucks an hour (or whatever it is now) for every hour spent on growing pumpkins and then the cost really skyrockets.

In our state, we have the highest minimum wage of anyone......$7.35 an hour. I reckon we really get "taken
to the cleaners"!
