Dear Fellow Canadian GVGO members
Seeing that the 1 Ton mark has been surpassed in Europe & the US, it's now time to see who can be the 1st person to break the 2,000 mark here in Canada. Here below are the details to the GVGO's largest challenge of all time.
The GVGO's Great Canadian 1-Ton Challenge
- open to All Canadians across this great country
- 2016 Canadian GVGO membership is required
- pumpkin must be weighed at a Canadian official GPC sanctioned weigh off
-- prize will be $5,000 for the 1st person or in case there are 2 weighed in over 2,000# in 2016, then the largest of the 2 will win the money. Prize money may be higher if we secure a sponsor.
- if no Canadians grow a 2,000# pumpkin in 2016, then there will be another $500 added to the prize each year until it's won
- Winner must make the pumpkin available to the main sponsor for their advertising needs to qualify for the prize money .
More details are being worked out at this time. The GVGO is sponsoring this challenge, but are actively looking for a partner & major sponsor. If you can help, please email us at gvgo@i-zoom.net or gvgo@outlook.com
If you have any comments or suggestion, please email us at gvgo@outlook.com or gvgo@i-zoom.net Thank you.
We wish all our fellow members & growers all the best in 2016. Happy New Year.
Cheers,

With this challenge, our goal is to introduce & promote our sport/hobby to all Canadians & their families. If you haven't noticed our core members (weigh 2 or more pumpkins each year & members who consistently grow over 1200#) of the GVGO have dropped considerably. We are also about to lose 6 or 7 older growers in the next 4-5 years. These are also core members who will be sorely missed. There are also currently younger retired growers that we're hoping to maybe entice into starting to growing again. Because of these things, we need to do something to jumpstart & promote our sport here in Canada not only to other pumpkin growers, but to as many Canadian gardeners, landscapers, farmers & everyday homeowners as we can & the $5,000 top prize money we're offering might just be enough for some to take up the sport, join the club & get into the action. We really want to promote this all across Canada & get as many people involved as possible.
Now that the membership is informed of the challenge, you have the next 4 months to get your patch ready for the big season. We wish you all the best in 2016.
Happy New Year.
Cheers, Jane & Phil GVGO
