Starting seeds end of April and in the hoophouse beginning of May.

2-3 weeks in pots is too long northpumpkin....start them later in April and get them in a heated hoophouse 1st week of May.

I plan to start May 1st and in the soil 10 to 14 days later depending on the weather. I don't have heated hoop houses or soil cables so the earlier I start the behinder I get.

Really? Just because the roots will be restricted by the peat pots?

The roots develop very fast and after 10 days are showing all around the edges of my pots. They should only be in pots until you see the first true leaf, after that into the ground. Usually that's 7-10 days.

Just put my soil heating cable in the garden tonight.

Soil temp is 7c at 8:30pm (was 15c today) and that was 4" down.

I plan on working the garden up this weekend, then putting the cable back in. On cold nights(or days), I will cover the area with styrofoam insulation to retain heat

Ground is very wet here, so I expect a late start. Has anyone seen the Spring yet?
