Sorry to see your pumpkin split. Lot of that going around lately. If you take a straw or something like that and stick it into the hole where your stem split and it goes through, the pumpkin will be disqualified for competition. If it does not go through the pumpkin will be fine.

It is hard to say if the split won't continue into the pumpkin but it happens more often that it doesn't. The split dries up and the pumpkin goes on for another month. I think you did fine with the fungicide and fan. Keep it dry.

As far as i can see on the picture it's a split into the cavity.I don't think keeping it dry is an issue here, but you have to close it ASAP , cause little fruitflies can enter your pumpkin and make it rot in a few days.I used expansion foam.
I know how you must feel, i found my two biggest ones splitted yesterday.

I feel sorry for the both of you. That is hard losing the biggest to fruits on one single day. What a pity. I was keeping an eye especially on that 1233. Very sorry for you Jos! What a beautiful pumpkin. This sure doesn`t make me feel too optimistic for my own 1233 Reiss fruit. It looks exactly like yours, a bit smaller of course.

Anders told me that the split is not so deep and not into the cavity.
I think the best he can do is to drill a hole into the cavity and do it a long time before the swedish weighoff,

othervice there is a risk that we have a new european record that will be very difficult to beat! The pumpkin has maybe 20 days left to grow and adding 20lb/day! And the shape of the pumpkin is a sign that he could go heavy? 1400? why not? Just keep it dry and good luck /Lars
